Trust in Christ alone to save you. Seek to obey His command and...
Hebrews 4:1-13. "Be killing sin, or it will be killing you." -John Owen

Hebrews 1:4-14. We are starting a new study in the book of Hebrews. While the writer of this letter does not identify himself, God is the ultimate author of both the Old and New Testaments. The theme of Hebrews is the absolute supremacy and sufficiency of Jesus Christ as Revealer and as Mediator of God's Grace.
Exodus 17-18. Let us look to Christ the rock of our salvation to receive provision for our daily needs. When times of testing and spiritual attack come into our lives let us prevail in prayer knowing that God will fight for us.
Hebrews 1:1-3. We are starting a new study in the book of Hebrews. While the writer of this letter does not identify himself, God is the ultimate author of both the Old and New Testaments. The theme of Hebrews is the absolute supremacy of Jesus Christ as a Revealer and as Mediator of God's grace.
Exodus 15:22 - 16. Through the lessons in the wilderness the Lord was teaching Israel to trust in Him, to rejoice in Him, to feed on Him, to obey Him, and to rest in Him. To all who trust in Christ, God has delivered us from the Egypt of our sin. We are currently being sanctified by the Holy Spirit as we journey through the wilderness of this world.
John 21:1-11. God's perserverance toward His people. After Jesus' resurrection, the first group of disciples that Jesus called from the boat are the exact same seven apostles that Jesus originally called to follow Him. It's amazing how patient our God is to perservere with us in the walk He has called us to.
Exodus 13:17 - 15:21. Israel's exodus from Egypt wasn't the end of their experience with God, it was a new beginning. The LORD through both His presence and providence would begin to lead and instruct Israel in this new relationship. He would lead them to accomplish His divine purpose and strengthen His people with His presence.
Matthew 28:11-20. The deception of the Chief Priests backed by the Sanhedrin. These soldiers knew more than the women at first - they saw the angel roll back the stone and the body was not there. Did they believe at this point? Of course not, their hearts were unmoved.

Matthew 27:57-66. Jesus' burial is the second core doctrine of the Gospel found in 1 Corinthians 15:1-5. Jesus' burial is reported clearly in all four Gospels yet we tend to not give this much thought - Yet His burial also has great signifiacance.
Exodus 3-4. God does not tell us to do things that we cannot accomplish. Though He may call us to tasks beyond our ability. If He called us we can do it with His help. The Lord accomplishes great things through weak people.
Matthew 27:45-53. Probably the most important words Jesus spoke from the cross. This refers to His perfect life and His completed atonement for sin. These works point to His death as an achievement and not the final gasping of a defeated and dying man. They were a declaration of triumph declaring that Jesus had finished the work He was sent for.
Exodus 1:22 - 2:25. From the time of his birth and throughout his life God was with Moses directing events; moving upon hearts and accomplishing His divine purposes. His birth was a ray of hope that shined into this dark period of Israel's captivity, for in him a future savior for Israel was born.
Matthew 27:27-44. "In Christ's finished work I see an ocean of merit; my plummet finds no bottom, my eye discovers no share... Once admit infinity into the matter, and limit is out of the question. Having a Divine Person for an offering, it is not sonsistent to conceive of limited value; bounds and measures are terms inapplicable to the Divine Sacrifice." Charles Spurgeon
Acts 2:42-47. Immediately following the outpouring of the Holy Spirit given on the day of Pentecost, the early believers could have focused on their past experiences. The apostles were specifically chosen by Jesus Christ to remember, teach about, and record the events and meaning of His ministry.

Pastor Lamar Lovett. Psalms 119:34. God has given us His Word that we may live by it. His Holy Spirit reveals the truth contained in the Bible to our hearts. Our responsibility, in Christ, is to humbly, prayerfully and diligently study the Word of God with the goal of applying its clear teachings.
God's Judgment. The goats do not understand the Lord's disapproval. "Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?" The emphasis is still readiness, but now the focus is on the people who look like believers and who even think they are but who will not be ready when Jesus comes.

2 Timothy 3:14-17
Matthew 25:14-30. Parable of the Talents. A true disciple of Jesus is one who perseveres until He returns. "For which one of you, when he wants to build a tower, does not first sit down and calculate the cost to see if he has enough to complete it?" - Luke 14:28
Matthew 25:1-13. Parable of the Ten Virgins. A true disciples of Jesus is one who perseveres until He returns. "For which one of you, when he wants to build a tower, does not first sit down and calculate the cost to see if he has enough to complete it?" - Luke 14:28

Genesis 48-49
Matthew 24:35-51. "In essentials - UNITY; in non-essentials - LIBERTY; in all things - CHARITY." Rupertus Meldenius, a German Lutheran theologian. We pray it serves well as a motto for every church and every denomination today.
Matthew 24:27-39. "In essentials - UNITY; in non-essentials - LIBERTY; in all things - CHARITY." Rupertus Meldenius, a German Lutheran theologian. We pray it serves well as a motto for every church and every denomination today.
Matthew 24:15-31. At the center of all end-times studying is the return of our Lord Jesus. He will bring an end to all history. One of Matthew's emphasis is the Kingdom of Heaven which came with Jesus Christ. It has been inaugurated but not yet consummated. He made this world. He came and lived in His world - and He will return at the end.
Matthew 24:1-14. At the center of all end-times studying is the return of our Lord Jesus. He will bring an end to all history. One of Matthew's emphasis is the Kingdom of Heaven which came with Jesus Christ. It has been inaugurated but not yet consummated. He made this world. He came and lived in His world - and He will return at the then.
Matthew 23:37-39. Here is Jesus' final lament showing His judgments on Israel's leaders were spoken more with tears.
Matthew 23:25-36. We still are living in a time of grace. But the day will soon come when God's wrath will be poured out again - the cup is steadily filling. The message to the world today is the same as it was in the day of John the Baptist and Jesus, "Repent, believe in the Lord Jesus, and be baptized."
Matthew 23:13-24. "Do as I say, not as I do..." The Pharisees would restrict the people with the burden of the law which they themselves did not keep, and in the process, forsook the true heart of God's justice, mercy and law.
Matthew 23:1-12. The grace that should distinguish every Christian is humility. If you want to be great in the Kingdom of Heaven - or if you want to be in the Kingdom at all - you must aim at a different mark than that of the Pharisees.
Matthew 6:13. "...and do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil." The word "temptation" in Scripture can refer to a direct temptation to do evil, or to a trial, an ordeal, or a testing. The truth is that every step we take is in the presence of temptation. There is not a moment of life that we are not tempted with unbelief or disobedience.
Matthew 6:12. In our study of this scripture, we should be diligently reminded every day of what the apostle Paul states in Ephesians 4:32 - "Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you."
Matthew 6:11. We are taking a break from our study in Matthew to talk about prayer. Prayer is an act and prayer is an attitude of dependency upon God, trusting Him. Prayer is never dictating to God; He is far from the proud but near to the humble.
Matthew 6:10. We are taking a break from our study in Matthew to talk about prayer. Prayer is an act and prayer is an attitude of dependency upon God, trusting Him. Prayer is never dictating to God; He is far from the proud but near to the humble.
Luke 11:1. We are taking a break from our study in Matthew to talk about prayer. Prayer is an act and prayer is an attitude of dependency upon God, trusting Him. Prayer is never dictating to God; He is far from the proud but near to the humble.
Matthew 21:23-46. Authority is the ability/power to rule or act and denotes power and privilege. The religious leaders saw themselves as the true authority in Israel. They were God’s people; they had their high priest and the great Sanhedrin along with the lesser councils.
Matthew 21:18-27. PROFESSION WITHOU PRACTICE. This has been a problem throughout biblical history and including our day. On the day before Ezekiel learned of the fall of Jerusalem to the Babylonians (586 B.C.), the Lord appeared to him to reveal why this was happening, and the explanation was profession with practice.
Matthew 21:12-17. The cleansing of the temple. Jesus quoted from Isaiah when He said, “My house shall be called a house of prayer.” What would Jesus’ response be if He came to Faith Community Church?
Christ the Lord is risen today, earth and heaven in chorus say, Alleluia! Love’s redeeming work is done, fought the fight, the battle won, Alleluia! Lives again our glorious King, where, o death, is now thy sting? Once He died our souls to save, Alleluia! What a Savior!
Matthew 21:1-11. "Go here and you will find..." Jesus deliberately and on purpose entered Jerusalem, not secretly. He is sovereign over all as He purposely orchestrated every point of His triumphal entry into Jerusalem, leading up to His passion.
Matthew 20:20-34. Who will be the greatest in Heaven? Those who serve with a good attitude, without looking to sit in a seat of honor or acknowledgment.
Matthew 20:17-19. This is the third time that Jesus tells His disciples about His passion, but the first time He says that He would not be killed by the Jews, but crucified by the Romans. All three predictions include His resurrection on the third day.
Matthew 19:27 - 20:16. The Kingdom of Heaven - What should you do to enter the kingdom of heaven? The bible always teaches that salvation is a gift of God's grace received through faith.
Matthew 19:16-26. A prosperous young man comes to Jesus inquiring about eternal life. What is striking is that Jesus does not seem to try to win him over in spite of the fact he was apparently sincere. Jesus' approach is radically different from most evangelicals today.
Matthew 19:13-15. What should you do to enter the kingdom of heaven? The requirement to “keep the commandments” is no to establish one’s merit before God but is to be an expression of true faith. The Bible always teaches that salvation is a gift of God’s grace received through faith.
Matthew 19:1-12. There was a dispute between the Jewish leaders over the interpretation for the cause of divorce. Jesus clearly took the side of Shammai concerning immortality, but ONLY after first pointing back to God’s original ideal for marriage which is found in Genesis 1:27 and 2:24.
Matthew 18:12-35. Jesus encourages the disciples to care for the lonely, the lost, the sick and the discouraged. He also deals with the serious subjects of church discipline and forgiveness.
Matthew 18:1-10. What does it take to become great? A person will become great as he sincerely and unpretentiously looks away from self to revere God.
Matthew 17:22-27. You cannot add to the finished work of Christ. To add to it is to disfigure it and destroy it altogether. There is nothing you can contribute to the payment that Jesus made on the cross for sin – no penance, no good work, no pilgrimage.
Matthew 17:14-21. This is not the first time Jesus has spoken to the disciples about their faith. But what was the “littleness of faith” of the apostles in this passage? It’s not so much the quantity of their faith as its quality - a faith that is bathed in prayer.
Matthew 17:1-13. "LISTEN TO HIM" were the words God spoke to Peter on the Mount of transfiguration. We are to build our lives on the revelation of Scripture, not the revelation of men.
Matthew 16:21-28. Here was a unique experience granted to only three disciples – they saw Jesus in heavenly glory. This was a kind of foretaste of the link between self-sacrifice and glorious vindication in God’s economy for the Messiah who reigns and yet suffers.
Matthew 16:13-20. In today’s passage there are several questions: Who/what is the rock on which Jesus says He will build His church? What are the gates of hell? What did Jesus promise Peter when He said He would give him the keys of the kingdom of heaven?
Matthew 16:1-12. Jesus thoughts were on the unbelief and hostility of the religious leaders. Jesus warns His disciples about the dangers of the legalism of the Pharisees and the modernism of the Sadducees.
Matthew 15:21-28. Gentile puppies with great faith. This seems very politically incorrect yet was common in Jesus’ day in referring to the Gentiles as “dogs,” “infidel dogs,” and later “Christian dogs.” But there is a clue in the original language since Jesus did not use the word for the wild dogs of the streets, but a different word that referred to house dogs, puppies, or pets thought of as waiting for scraps at the table.
Matthew 15:1-20. True and False Religion. This washing of the hands had nothing to do with cleanliness and everything to do with religious tradition, Pharisee tradition and ceremonies. Washing one’s hands was not required by the Old Testament yet had become an important part of the Pharisee’s religion (much of their religion was based on such matters).
Matthew 14:22-33. The pinnacle of this passage is the disciples’ worship of Jesus as they confessed, You are certainly God’s Son! Though the Father spoke this at John’s baptism and even the demons at Gadara addressed Him as the Son of God (8:29), this was the first time the twelve declared that Jesus was God’s Son.
